Community Service Award,
2002
by
Short North NeighborhoodFoundation, Inc.

Award glass vase
designed and created by
772 Cameo

This is the second year the Short North Community Leadership Award has been given.  Last year Eva Mahaffey was honored with this award.

This year's recipient, Norm Dolder, was one of the early pioneers in Victorian Village.  He purchased a home on Neil Avenue in 1974 along with his partner Bill Griffin.  They restored it over the years -- including adding a greenhouse for Norm's orchids--- and today it is one of the neighborhood's showplaces.

Norm served on the Victorian Village Commission in the early 1980s and has volunteered in some capacity on all the home tours since the beginning.  His home has been on the Victorian Village Tour of Homes as well as the Council of Historic Neighborhoods Preservation Tour.

In 1987, after a severe windstorm destroyed over 300 trees in Goodale Park, Norm became President of Friends of Goodale Park.  Since then he has earned the respect of the residents of the downtown historic districts as well as the staff at all levels of the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department.

Working in cooperation with community volunteers, CRPD personnel, and philanthropic organizations such as The Columbus Foundation, The Reinberger Foundation, and the Ohio Arts Council he has spearheaded significant improvements in Goodale Park.   Those improvements include planting 400 new trees, adding a beautiful Victorian gazebo, restoration of the caretaker's residence, attractive new entranceways, new playground equipment and the "designer parking lot" by the shelterhouse.

Goodale Park is 151 years old this year and we have Norm to thank for the dramatic enhancements of the past 15 years.

SNNF
Short North Neighborhood Foundation
Celebrating the Short North

The Short North Neighborhood Foundation was formed in 2000 to celebrate the uniqueness of the many neighborhoods and neighborhood organizations in the Short North.  Much has been done by the Short North organizations to contribute to the wonderful environment that is home to many residents and businesses. It is a purpose of SNNF to foster partnerships within and among these diverse organizations in order to further enhance the lifestyle of all who live, work or play in the Short North.

An annual Friend Raising event celebrates the work of our volunteers. Future volunteer Friends are identified and welcomed at this event.  SNNF recognizes that fun is abundant in the Short North.   We welcome all who wish to participate in our organization.
The 2001 Mardi Gras benefited:
