George Bellows,
a native of Columbus, Ohio,
studied with the influential painter
Robert Henri at the New York
School of Art starting in 1904.
This painting is owned by the
Los Angeles Museum of Art.
The Columbus Museum of Art
holds a large collection of his work.
This painting has been interpreted as
a critical social statement.
The true subject of his painting is
the vitality and and pleasures
of the urban poor, not their
deprivation or oppression.

Lidgus Totem,
"In Dreams Again"
Located in Poplar Park, at the north end of the "cap"
Presented to the Short North and City of Columbus
by Zoe and Jack Johnstone, May 2005

"In Dreams Again" is made of steel and glass.
A Totem, it contains symbols of Ohio:
Water: The word "Ohio" is a French corruption
of a Seneca-Iroquois word meaning beautiful river.
Trillium: the state of Ohio wildflower.
Three Cardinals: The cardinal is the state bird.

Andrew Lidgus:
"The Short North is a miniature melting pot of different
cultures, races and lifestyles.
In truth, beauty and nature can
live in harmony and learn from one another."
